CHAPTER 5: INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES.
REFLECTION:
Each person learns in different way in order to their personal
characteristics or their personal styles. Styles are specific aspects that differentiate
humans. According to those styles, learners can choose the correct strategies
or methods as a way for learning information in the process to know a foreign
language, to achieve a particular end, or to gain knowledge. Cognitive style refer personality plus
cognition. It means that many factors are involved in learning process such
as intellect, culture, emotion, reflection, cognition, communication, and
environment. In the style list selected by researchers, field independent and
sensitive, both are equality important, because distinguishing parts from a
whole is as necessary as view the general configuration, idea or event. Interaction learners is necessary for
studying groups, because it allow the connection and communication. Intrapersonal
learners serve to students for reflection, research by themselves deeply
without interruptions, and doing analysis; Kinesthetic learners, good at
sports; Verbal learners, good at writing and reading; Visual learners, that
prefer study drawing, doing charts and diagrams, and maps; Logical learners,
good at math, and solving problems; and Auditory, good at listening sounds. All
styles mentioned above have specifically way to apply on learning a second
language. Knowing about learner differences is very important for both students
and teachers because learning process involves an association between
individual stiles and strategies. I mean, that strategies learners need
depend of the type of styles or characteristics they have.
